Card controls and freezing

Freeze a card, set spending limits, block merchant categories and manage notifications from the Fundly web app.

Controls at a glance

Every Fundly card, virtual or physical, has the same set of controls. Changes take effect in seconds and apply to the next authorisation. Cards are issued by [PARTNER], and some controls are enforced by their systems, so a payment that was already approved before you changed a setting will still go through.

  • Freeze and unfreeze. Temporarily block all new payments.
  • Spending limits. Cap spend per transaction, per day or per month.
  • Merchant category blocks. Block whole categories such as gambling or cash advances.
  • Online-only toggle. Allow a card to be used online but not in person, or the reverse.
  • Notifications. Real-time push for every approved or declined payment.

Freeze a card

Freeze a card if you cannot find it, if you see a payment you do not recognise, or if you simply want a pause.

  1. Sign in to the Fundly web app at app.fundly.xyz and open Cards.
  2. Select the card and choose Freeze.
  3. The card turns grey and shows Frozen.

While frozen, every new payment is declined. Refunds and reversals still arrive. Subscriptions will fail, and most merchants retry a few times before cancelling. To unfreeze, choose Unfreeze and confirm with your passcode or biometrics.

Warning
Freezing is for pauses. If you believe the card details have been stolen, do not just freeze it. Follow Lost or stolen card so the card is cancelled and replaced.

Set spending limits

  1. Select the card and open Limits.
  2. Choose Per transaction, Daily or Monthly.
  3. Enter an amount in your account currency and save.

Your own limits sit inside the limits of your verification level. On an Instant card you can lower the limits but not raise them past the Instant ceiling. Instant cards have monthly limits set by our partner and regulators. See Instant vs Verified.

Block merchant categories

Merchant category blocks use the category code that every merchant carries on the card network. Blocking a category declines any payment from a merchant in that category.

CategoryTypical use for blocking
GamblingSelf-control, or a card given to a family member
Cash advance and quasi-cashStop crypto purchases or money transfers on a card
Adult contentFamily or shared cards
Travel and airlinesA card meant for subscriptions only

Category codes are set by the merchant's acquirer, not by Fundly, so a merchant can occasionally be classified in a surprising way. If a legitimate payment is declined because of a block, remove the block, retry, then put it back.

Online-only and in-person toggles

On the card screen, switch Online payments or In-person payments on or off. A virtual card for subscriptions can be online-only. A physical card for a child or a helper can be in-person only, so the number is useless if it is copied.

Notifications

Real-time notifications are on by default. You get a push for every approved payment, every decline with the reason, and every refund. You can turn off approval notifications per card, but decline notifications stay on.

Tip
Keep notifications on for your physical card. A decline you did not cause is the earliest warning that the card has been skimmed.
